La Chiesa del Nostro Santo Patrono S. Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo sarà ora solennemente consacrata.
Mons Damaso Pio De Bono, vivamente pregato dal zelantissimo Parroco Arc. Salvatore Bartolucci, compirà questa bellissima, benchè lunghissima funzione, alla quale nessuno di noi, neppure i più vecchi hanno mai assistito; impero chè solamente nel 1732 in Caltagirone, Mons. Matteo Trigona, Vescovo di Siracusa, Consacrò il 21 Dicembre la Chiesa del Collegio ed il 19 Ottobre quella di S. Giorgio; le sole chiese consacrate in Citta’ dopo la Basilica Cattedrale di San Giuliano.
Appunto però perchè tali funzioni sono cosi rare, il popolo sconosce il concetto e l’importanza di esse, molto meno può comprendere le bellissime e misteriose cerimonie che la Chiesa adopera per la consacrazione.
La nostra Basilica di S. Giacomo e stata da parecchi Sommi Pontefici arricchita di privilegi, specialmente da Pio VI, che concesse l’indulgenza plenaria a tutti coloro che nella festa o in un giorno qualsiasi fra l’ottava, sia di S. Giacomo che della nostra Concittadina la Beata Lucia, visitano la nostra Basilica; da Clemente XII che vi eresse la insigne Collegiata; e da pio VII che la elevò a Basilica Minore.
Nell’Altare Maggiore sono deposte nella Consacrazione le Reliquie di S. Giacomo Maggiore Apostolo, di S. Matteo Apostolo e di S. Cosma.
La Chiesa possiede ancora, oltre alle preziose Reliquie dell’osso del braccio di S. Giacomo e del braccio destro della Beata Lucia, moltissime altre Reliquie, che nel 1911 il medesimo Parroco Arc. Salvatore Bartolucci fece riunire in un magnifico Reliquiario, appositamente costruito nell’altare vicino al coretto, su disegno del Prof. Gesualdo Di Bartolo; al lato del medesimo altare vi è l’elenco delle Reliquie.
S. Eccellenza Mons. Damaso Pio De Bono il 13 Ottobre 1913 ha concesso l’indulgenza di 50 giorni a tutti coloro, che reciteranno un pater innanzi il detto altare delle Reliquie.

The Church of Our Holy Patron S. James Major Apostle will now be solemnly consecrated.
Mons Damaso Pio De Bono, strongly prayed by the zealous parish priest Arc. Salvatore Bartolucci, will perform this beautiful, albeit very long function, to which none of us, not even the oldest have ever witnessed; empire that only in 1732 in Caltagirone, Mons. Matthew Trigona, Bishop of Syracuse, consecrated on December 21 the Church of the College and on October 19 that of S. George; the only churches consecrated in the city after the Cathedral Basilica of San Giuliano.
Precisely, however, because these functions are so rare, the people know the concept and importance of them, much less can understand the beautiful and mysterious ceremonies that the Church uses for consecration.
Our Basilica of S. James was by several Supreme Pontiffs enriched with privileges, especially by Pius VI, who granted the plenary indulgence to all those who in the feast or on any day any of the octave, be it of S. James who of our Fellow Citizen the Blessed Lucia, visit our Basilica; from Clement XII who erected the distinguished Collegiate Church; and from Pius VII who raised it to Basilica Minor.
In the High Altar, the Relics of S. James Major Apostle, of S. Matthew Apostle and S. Cosma.
The Church still possesses, in addition to the precious Relics of the bone of the arm of S. Giacomo and the right-hand man of Blessed Lucia, many other Relics, which in 1911 the same parish priest Arc. Salvatore Bartolucci brought together in a magnificent Reliquary, purpose-built in the altar near the correct, on the design of Prof. Gesualdo Di Bartolo; on the side of the same altar there is the list of Relics.
S. Excellency Mons. Damaso Pio De Bono on October 13, 1913 granted the 50-day indulgence to all those who will play a father before the said altar of the Relics.
