Edificata ai piedi della Scala Santa Maria del Monte, per volere della congregazione dei Falegnami, e degli Ebanisti, risale alla metà del XVIII Sec.
Opera dell’Architetto Siracusano Rosario Gagliardi.
La Chiesa di San Giuseppe costruita dal Comune con delibera del 25 marzo 1572, al posto dell’antica Chiesetta di Santa Barbara, distrutta dal terremoto del 1693.
La Chiesa, con prospetto Barocco di Pietra, ad Intaglio, ornato di Portale artisticamente lavorato, di lesene e di due piccoli Campanili, e rivolta ad occidente.
Nel Campanile, guardando il prospetto , alla sinistra, vi sono due campane con le seguenti iscrizioni: la campana grande reca soltanto la data di fusione del 1760;

In the Bell Tower, looking at the façade, on the left, there are two bells with the following inscriptions: the large bell bears only the date of merger of 1760;
Nel 1958 sul prospetto laterale venne collocato un pannello di maiolica, raffigurante San Giuseppe Artigiano, eseguito dal locale Pino Romano , mentre nel 1968 il Prospetto Principale Fù restaurato ad opera della Sovraintendenza ai monumenti di Catania.
In 1958 on the side façade was placed a panel of majolica, depicting San Giuseppe Artigiano, executed by the local Pino Romano, while in 1968 the Main Prospectus was restored by the Superintendence of the monuments of Catania.
All’interno, sull’altare maggiore, è collocata una statua di San Giuseppe, opera del Calatino Giuseppe Nicastro (1924).
L’interno della chiesa (m.16,50×15) a pianta centrale, con pavimento di marmo, rinnovato nel 1978 e decorato di stucchi del 1864, di altari pure di marmo policromo.

Negli Altari laterali varie tele di santi opera dei fratelli Giuseppe e Francesco Vaccaro.
L’opera più antica che risale al XVI Sec. e la statua lignea di S.Barbara , titolare della preesistente Chiesetta , che sorgeva a metà S. Bonaventura, opera pregevole di ignoto autore, viene festeggiata il 4 Dicembre ed è la patrona dei Vigili del Fuoco.
