La Madonna Santissima era venerata con il titolo di Santa Maria della Grazia, nella Chiesa che esisteva nell’ex Feudo grazia, che con L’Erezione della diocesi nel 1816 dal Comune era stato assegnato al Seminario Vescovile Diocesano.

Our Lady of the Most Holy was venerated with the title of St. Mary of Grace, in the Church that existed in the former Feud grace, which with the Erection of the Diocese in 1816 by the Municipality had been assigned to the Diocesan Bishop’s Seminary.

PRIORI BENEDETTINI DI SANTA MARIA DELLA GRAZIA
Nel 1495 il Dr D. Giovanni Filippo Barone, nostro concittadino e religioso della congregazione ossia dell’ordine di S. Giorgio, supplicava il Comune per la erezione di un Monastero nel latifondo di Santa Maria della Grazia.
Non venuti però quei religiosi ad abitarvi, per deliberazione del nostro Consiglio nel 1506 le terre e i diritti tramutarono in Priorato Benedettino suffraganeo del Monastero di S. Placido di Messina.
Il nostro Senato si conservò il diritto della presentazione dei Priori, lasciando l’istituzione di tali beneficati dell’ordinario Diocesano.
E’ finalmente nel 1806 il Can. D. Pietro Chiarandà che fù eletto dal Senato, ma non pergiunse possesso, perchè tale beneficio fù assegnato a dote del Seminario Diocesano dei Chierici, come chiaro, per le bolle del nostro Vescovado e per cuii nostri Vescovi hanno preso il titolo di Priori di Santa Maria della Grazia.

In 1495 Dr D. John Philip Baron, our fellow citizen and religious of the congregation or of the order of St. George, begged the Municipality for the erection of a Monastery in the latifundium of Santa Maria della Grazia.
However, those religious did not come to live there, by deliberation of our Council in 1506 the lands and rights turned into the Suffragan Benedictine Priory of the Monastery of S. Placid of Messina.
Our Senate retained the right of the Priors’ presentation, leaving the establishment of such beneficiaries of the ordinary Diocesan.
It’s finally in 1806 the Can. D. Peter Chiarandà who was elected by the Senate, but did not pursue possession, because this benefit was assigned to dowry of the Diocesan Seminary of the Clerics, as clear, for the bulls of our Bishopric and for which our Bishops took the title of Priors of St. Mary of Grace.
