La Chiesa sorge a levante della Città , a ridosso di quella che era una volta la prima cinta muraria della Città.
La tradizione vule che sia stata costruita e consacrata subito dopo il Mille ad opera dei Genovesi che avevano liberato la Città dagli Arabi.
Crollòanch’essa nel terremoto del 1693 e fu ricostruita più modesta della originaria.
Conserva come uniche testimonianze la Torre Campanaria merlata in stile Pisano, che alcuni vogliono sia una costruzione rersidua delle antiche Mura, e il fianco ovest con un Portale Ogivale.
Al suo interno, fra gli altri gioielli d’Arte si può ammirare un pregevole Dipinto di scuola Fiamminga attribuito a Roger Van Der Weiden, che rappresenta il Mistero della Trinita (Oggi custodito nel Museo Diocesano, presso il Convento di S. Francesco D’Assisi).

The Church stands to the east of the City, close to what was once the City’s first wall.
Tradition has it that it was built and consecrated immediately after the year 1000 by the Genoese who had liberated the City from the Arabs.
It also collapsed in the earthquake of 1693 and was rebuilt more modestly than the original.
It preserves as its sole remaining features the crenellated Bell Tower in Pisan style, which some believe to be a remnant of the ancient Walls, and the west side with an Ogival Portal.
Inside, among other artistic treasures, one can admire a valuable Painting of the Flemish school attributed to Rogier van der Weyden, which represents the Mystery of the Trinity (Today housed in the Diocesan Museum, near the Convent of St. Francis of Assisi).
