Painters very well known in central eastern Sicily for most of the nineteenth century, were then almost totally forgotten so much as to be lost the memory, outside the local environment and a small circle of connoisseurs.

The few writings dedicated to them in the present century, are poorly documented and contain many inaccuracies that have contributed, even after a few short is more precise note of the Ragona, and credit an image distorted by the role actually played and to give known works a second unreliable chronology.

It was not enough, therefore, to review materials already acquired, in order to recover this other neglected piece to the history of the painting of the nineteenth century Sicilian, but it was necessary to proceed in advance to a widespread search for as many works as possible.

These then, together with the new testimonies and the wide point allowed by documentary research, have put us in a position to draw a historical profile – critical of the activity of the cows, to reconstruct their training and the different personalities and to specify ways and times of the long collaboration.
